Our Story

There’s nothing we like more than a good story. Every company has a story and, of course, no two stories are the same. Like all good stories, business stories are filled with major plot twists, human drama, challenge, conflict and intrigue. We’re always looking for morals in the stories we tell. We’re big on takeaways because if you’re not learning, you’re not growing. Or as Ferris Bueller said,

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

So here’s our story in a few key pictures. And, of course, there are a few takeaways at the end.

We come from varied backgrounds…

As adults most of us spent years, even decades, in local TV News as anchors, reporters, producers, videographers and editors.

The one thing we shared was a love of storytelling.

It was a great gig until local news became infatuated with local crime.

Eventually, the body count got too high. That’s when Marc, our founder, quit to begin Growing Bolder.  Within one month, The Growing Bolder Radio Show debuted and began shining the media spotlight on ordinary people doing extraordinary things after the age of 40.

Jill, a former TV news producer, signed on as our radio producer.

Then Bill, the legendary storyteller, came aboard and we began to assemble a team of the very best people we ever worked with.

Web producer and former ABC News producer Jackie was next to join the effort…

…then code Ninja and software development rock star — Pat…

…then, news producer and social media superstar — Katy…

…then videographer/editor extraordinaire — Jason…

…and then Josh, the multi-talented, software design and development whiz.

Together, we began building our media empire. There have been lots of meetings…

…and plenty to celebrate…

…but it’s not been easy. In fact, it’s been a wild ride…

…and we’ve had to move our offices more than once.

We’ve even worked out of Marc’s home. Twice.

As we’ve bootstrapped our operation, we’ve all had to assume many different roles…

…like handyman

and custodian.

When things go well, we win awards…

…and when they don’t, we simply get out and push. Together.

We watch every penny, turning $10 aquariums into underwater camera housings…

…and $50,000 cameras into video playback monitors.

We remain nimble by paying close attention to developing trends…

…that way we know what’s coming before it’s here.

There is plenty of good news to report from our efforts. The GBTV Show is doing great and expanding into new markets…

…and so is our Growing Bolder Radio show.

We’re building powerful online communities for clients and licensing our unique and inspiring content.

We’ve received a grant to produce Lifelong Learning Minutes and help spread the gospel of active lifestyle, social engagement and mental stimulation.

Our online community is growing daily and changing lives for the better.

We’re having a positive impact as a for-purpose, for-profit.

We’ve got a long ways to go to achieve our goals. Here’s what we’ve learned so far (the takeaways).

A good idea is only a good beginning.

Success is people-powered.

Even a good idea combined with great people is no guarantee of success. So celebrate everything…

…get up early…

…never stop trying to do a better job of providing something important…

…hang out with rock stars whenever possible…

…laugh everyday…

…serve every day…

…think big thoughts…

…and always remember that good people make great stories but you have to engage them on their turf.

Be persistent and never give up.

And here’s the bottom line to building a business: Plan but be nimble.

In other words, always have something in your teleprompter but be ready (and able) to ad-lib when necessary or beneficial.
